EDUCATION RESTART PLAN
Students from Cultural Journeys are welcome to return to school the week starting Monday, June 1st and will be placed into two groups – Group A (Monday and Thursday) and Group B (Tuesday and Friday).
Your teacher will reach out to you this week to let you know the group your child is in and the days that your child will attend. The new schedule will be from 9:30 – 2:30 on those specific days. The break for recess will be for 15 minutes and the lunch break will be from 12:00-12:30.
Learning Expeditions will attend every Tuesday from 9:30 – 2:30. The teachers will be reaching out to share the expectations on those particular days.
We want you to know that we have put safety protocols in place that have been directed from the Ministry, District and Workplace Health and Safety. A full health and safety document has been developed and if you would like more information on the procedures we are following, please request a copy for your own reference.
A number of routines have changed, so can you please go over these with your children and discuss how things may have changed since they were here before Spring Break.
- CJ students will arrive at school no earlier than 9:15 am and may then proceed to the playground. A staff member will be at the gate and will sanitize student’s hands at that time. The children can play on the playground until 9:30 where they will be drummed inside. They will wait at their outside classroom door where the teacher will direct them to the hand washing station and then they can proceed to their desks. Parents will be asked not to enter the building unless absolutely necessary. The front doors to the school will remain locked.
- LEX students are to enter the building through the outside doors situated near their classrooms. The same hand washing protocols will be required of the LEX students as the CJ students.
- Washing hands will be required before they go outside and when they come back into the classroom.
- The Provincial Health Officer has told the Ministry that children can practice “physical spacing” This means that students will be able to be within 2 meters of each other however, will not be able to touch. Adults in the building will still practice physical distancing.
- Many activities will be done outside so your child will be required to participate outside. Please send appropriate clothing for all weather and a change of clothing (CJ).
- Children should bring a water bottle and lunch. Students will not be able to share food or drinks.
- Students will not be allowed to congregate in the washrooms and only one person can be in the washroom at one time. “X”‘s are placed on the floor just as an indicator where the students should be distanced from the doorway to allow the person to safely come out of the washroom.
- Personal protective equipment is not required by staff or students but if you feel that your child needs to wear a mask they are welcome to do so. Please make sure to talk to them about not touching their face and to dispose of the mask properly if it is a disposable mask.
- Students will have their own bin of supplies and will be responsible for those supplies throughout the day. We recommend that they do not share supplies with others.
- Please leave all toys and “extras” at home.
- Breakfast club will be available in the classrooms. We will be providing single serve items.
- Certain rooms will be closed at this time… Room 11, Room 6, Library, Gym, Break Room and Danielle’s Learning Support Room.
We all know that this is going to be a very different time and experience for our children. We want everyone to know that health and safety is our number one priority and we are constantly making sure we are doing what we can do to keep people safe. Everyone has to play their part, so please discuss the expectations with your children, so they know what school will look like when they come back.
