Good Afternoon,
Hope is Light - “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” —Desmond Tutu.
I wanted to start this week’s update with a quote about hope and how hope got us through the difficult week we had here at the school. The finding of the children at Kamloop’s Residential School rocked all of us to our core. I couldn’t even imagine the atrocities that were committed to these young children and their families. That is why I choose the word HOPE to focus on.
Despite the darkness Residential Schools have created for our First Nations people, I know that our First Nation Community will persevere because they have hope for the future. I have seen the community at our school wrap around all who were suffering and hold them up with their amazing strength. We have cried many tears over this difficult situation and I’m sure there will be many more tears to come.
The strength in community is what will get us through this dark time. I have hope in our amazing children to change this world and make it a much brighter place. I have sat in circles and heard the student’s concern and questions around finding so many children buried in Kamloops. They don’t understand how anyone can be so horrible to children and treat them the way they did. The kids talked about kindness and respect for everyone no matter the color of their skin, their culture, language, gender or anything else that makes them a unique human being.
Our amazing children give me HOPE! Our community gives me HOPE! We will get through this together!
